The pictures of Uwe Brand are characterized by impressionistic complimentary contrasts of colour - some of them with almost pointilistic areas of colour, others arranged monochrome. Very characteristic is his quick and strong stroke which often models the pasty paint on the canvas. This shows the close relation to Vincent van Gogh. Brand adapts and interprets the language of shape, the colours, the themes and the technique of Vincent van Gogh and leads it into a new - his peronal - style.

A sketch or a quick chalk drawing catch and beware the atmosphere of nature and serve as drafts during his painting in the studio. Most of his known works are oil paintings on canvas, but connoisseurs in Europe and North America also regard the sketches and chalk drawings as an important part of Brand´s work of art.

On his regular study trips to Bornholm (91, 94), to Gotland (96), to the Faroers (97, 99, 00), to the Provence (98) and to Ireland (98) the sketchbook is always the companion of the artist, helping to keep impressions in mind for the later process of recreating a landscape on the canvas.

Brand regards painting is a talent to be used. In his works he renews nature and shows what neither cameras nor human eyes can see - the pictures reveal his subjective view. ...Deliberately I do not reflect the society but try to beware a musical, literary and artistic heritage... , Brand describes his motivation. This is not meant as museal protection but - by renewing the esthetic of Vincent van Gogh or Edvard Munch - as a counterpoint in a world of agonie. In a world of lost values - at the edge of the millenium - Brand - almost conservative - commits on the esthetic of fine arts, aiming to beware the cultural and artistic values of the outgoing 19th and beginning 20th century for comming generations. Nevertheless Brand himself is not fixed to a certain style, we can rather assign him to classical modern art than to contemporary art.

We will follow Uwe Brand on his way - knowing that his expressive power leads to an important work of art - may be even more abstract.
